Multipurpose vaginal rings for HIV prevention and non-hormonal contraception

Vaginal rings releasing antiretrovirals - either alone or in combination with contraceptive progestins are being developed for contraception and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission via vagina. However, hormonal contraceptives associated numerous side effects contraindications, many women interested using hormone-free contraceptives. The aim this project is to develop multipurpose vaginal release copper and/or zinc ions dapivirine over a month HIV prevention. Ring manufacture, swell testing, vitro drug testing have been conducted. experimental results obtained currently encouraging support the continued development these ring formulations as novel interesting technology strategy.
